Annie's Story

Annie’s life changed forever when she was just four months old. Her mother had been tragically killed by poachers in Kruger National Park (KNP), leaving the tiny calf vulnerable and alone. Luckily, KNP’s Head Ranger Don English located her quickly, and she was flown safely to Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary.

Arriving in relatively good condition due to the rapid rescue, Annie took to the bottle immediately and began her journey of recovery. She was soon introduced to a group of older orphans, River, Tyson, Wyntir, Tana, and Mabush. Despite the size difference, Annie’s sweet, gentle nature won over her larger companions, and she quickly formed a special bond with River and Tyson. The trio became inseparable, supporting each other through the challenges of rehabilitation.

Being the smallest of the group, Annie received extra care and attention from the team. She is easily recognizable by her short body, stout little legs, and the small kink at the end of her tail. Her gentle, inquisitive nature and friendly personality endeared her to everyone around her, making her a joy to care for.
