Abby 's Story

Abby was rescued on 8th April 2026 and admitted into Care for Wild’s High Care Unit, where she was placed in the boma directly next to Nguni, another young orphan.

That same evening, Wagyu passed away and Nguni was left alone. In the quiet that followed, Nguni began calling out. From the moment Abby responded, the two calves called softly to one another across the bomas and immediately formed a bond. It was instinctive, calm, and unforced, and from that day forward they have been inseparable.

Nguni, already comfortable with bottle feeding, would come to the boma poles at feeding times, waiting for his caregivers and engaging confidently with his routine. Abby, by contrast, was more cautious and initially less trusting of human contact. She often observed from a distance, drawing reassurance from Nguni’s confidence and following his lead in unfamiliar situations.

With time, patience, and consistent care, the caregivers slowly began to earn Abby’s trust. Her progress was gradual, built through repetition, calm presence, and routine feeding, with Nguni playing an important role in helping her feel secure in her new environment.

Today, Abby continues her rehabilitation alongside Nguni. Their bond remains central to her adaptation, providing comfort, stability, and the confidence she needs as she settles into life at Care for Wild.
