Through months and years of continuous observation, they develop an exceptional and intimate understanding of each rhino's personality, movements, behaviour, health, social interactions and wellbeing. Every shift begins with the knowledge that the threat is real. Care for Wild's Anti-Poaching Rangers are selected for their courage, integrity, resilience and unshakable discipline. Working day and night across vast, rugged and often unforgiving terrain, they cover hundreds of kilometres, securing access points, inspecting perimeter fencing, protecting critical infrastructure and investigating every sign of suspicious activity. In an environment where one missed track, one damaged fence or one overlooked detail can have devastating consequences, nothing is ignored and nothing is left to chance. K9 Unit: On the Scent

Care for Wild's Mounted Unit extends the reach of conservation security, allowing rangers to cover vast areas quickly while travelling silently through terrain that would otherwise be difficult or impossible to patrol. Working in complete partnership with their horses, the Mounted Unit combines mobility and endurance to strengthen protection across the reserve. Operating around the clock, it receives and analyses live information from teams working across the landscape, coordinating security operations, monitoring wildlife, deploying resources and supporting rapid decision-making. Every Rhino Monitor observation, field sensor alert, drone deployment and field report contributes to a constantly evolving operational picture, ensuring the right information reaches the right people at the right time.
Advanced Drone Programme: A New Perspective on Protection
Care for Wild operates an advanced professional drone programme that has become an essential component of modern conservation management and wildlife protection. With multiple licensed Remote Pilots operating in accordance with South African Civil Aviation Authority regulations, Care for Wild is also a certified Unmanned Aircraft Systems Operator Certificate (UASOC) holder. This certification authorises Care for Wild to conduct professional drone operations in accordance with South African aviation regulations, demonstrating the highest standards of operational safety, compliance and professionalism.
Equipped with thermal imaging, high-resolution optical sensors and mapping capabilities, drones support wildlife monitoring, anti-poaching operations, search and rescue missions, veterinary procedures, infrastructure inspections, habitat mapping and environmental monitoring, providing rapid aerial intelligence across vast landscapes.
